The 19th Hong Kong Film Awards Ceremony was held at night on 16th Apr., 2000. Ann Hui's Ordiary Heroes won the Best Picture Award, the only award it got. Johnnie To was awarded as the best director for his gangster film The Mission. Andy Lau, who has been very popular but never got any official local film award, won his first Best Actor Award for his role in Running Out of Time. Veteran actress Helena Lo won over her younger rivals to get the Best Actress Award. Sci-fi action film Purple Storm won five technical awards.
